Howard & Co., Boston, Mass., series I pocket watch, N size, 15 jewels, key wind and set gilt plate movement with lever escapement, steel balance and Reed's safety barrel with maintaining power in a silver, reeded edge hunting case, the front cover engraved "S. Fisher", Roman numeral, single sunk white enamel dial with photographic transfer of a young woman, blued steel fleur-de-lis hands, serial #353, c1858.
CONDITION:
CASE: Dents; Dings and pin pricks; Scratches and abrasion on outer surface of case; Scratches and pin pricks on inner surface of case and cuvette; Front cover lift spring weak; Cover extends beyond 90 degrees when opened, front, 100 deg.; Rear cover snap worn; Crystal cracked; Bow a poor replacement; Pusher worn. DIAL: Hairlines in enamel, 1:00, 5- 7:00; Glued chips and filled losses to left of seconds bit. HANDS: Replaced. MOVEMENT PLATES: Minor marks and scratches on plate; Minor spotting and discoloration; Cross for stopwork missing; Many steel components with specks of oxide. MOVEMENT FUNCTION: Tries to run, needs service. RARITY: This is a two star watch in Gilbert, Engle and Shugart's `Complete Price Guide to Watches`, uncommon, less than 1,000 made.
